Zaika Khotkovsky
Collectible handmade soft toy made according to old patterns from vintage velor and stuffed with sawdust.

The history of the Khotkovo toy begins back in 1908.
From simple rag dolls that the nuns sewed in
Pokrovsky Khotkov Monastery (Moscow region, Khotkovo city)

By 1914, their range had expanded to include patchwork rattles, squirrels, hares, bears, and elephants.

In the 1920s-1930s, after the advent of Soviet power and the ruin of the monastery, the nuns continued their work despite the scarcity of materials. The craftswomen managed to create an incredible sculptural resemblance to real animals.
For the most part, Khotkovo animals were sewn from felt
and cotton baize and stuffed with sawdust.

One of these toys was a bunny with a satin bow around its neck.
Thanks to a surviving copy in a private collection,
we managed to restore patterns
and recreate that same bunny.
